Although the origination of the current
club is unique, the club's goals are the same as the original
club - the community as the main focus.
In June 1973, the club was made of a group of about 15
businessmen and public servants. The meetings were held
in a quaint house on a nine-hole golf course, Fern Hill
Country Club. The chartered name was Kiwanis Club of
Fraser - Moravian.
On April 30, 1975, the name charged to Kiwanis Club of
Clinton - Moravian, but still remained housed at Fern Hill
Country Club. From this bungalow, fund-raisers
abounded. A 200 Club raffle was the original fundraiser
and then came the annual Lotto and Spaghetti Dinners.
In November, 1993, the unusual happened, the Kiwanis Club
of Chippewa Valley merged with the Kiwanis Club of Clinton -
Moravian and a new club named Kiwanis Club of Clinton Township
emerged. The Chippewa Valley Club brought both the
annual Grand Raffle and the Wild Game Dinner. These two
fundraisers have become two of the club's most significant
fundraisers.
We are a strong group of businessmen and businesswomen,
both working and retired. We still meet at Fern Hill
Country Club, but the facility has had many remodeling
projects and additions. Around 55 members, and growing,
we are now able to sponsor, not only the original recipients,
the Mt. Clemens Baseball Club, St. Leo's Soup Kitchen, Holiday
parties for underprivileged children, C.L.E.A.V.E. (Homes for
developmentally disabled), but also have been able to sponsor
Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, St. Joseph's Children's Center,
Macomb Literacy Partners, Compassion Pregnancy Center, Clinton
- Macomb Library, 2 Key Clubs, Housing Opportunities for
Macomb County, March of Dimes, Holiday Parties for underprivileged
children, Wings of Hope Cancer Foundation, D.A.R.E.,
G.R.E.A.T., Close Up Foundation, Special Olympics, Clinton
Township and Fraser Police Honor Guard, Mt. Clemens General Hospital, Forgotten Harvest Food Pantry and
other immediate or emergency community situations, plus we
offer scholarships to area high schools.
At the winter holidays, food drives are encouraged with
various schools in the community. The Key Club members
of community high schools, various Boy Scouts and the Kiwanis
members collect, package and distribute nearly 500 food baskets, with hams or turkeys and
bags of potatoes also included.
